When did Primary Care of Clear Lake start, and what was the founding vision?

The practice was started in 2010 to offer personalized primary care to patients in the Clear Lake and neighboring areas. Both Dr, Smriti and Dr, Niraj had been working with large hospital systems until then, and they realized they wanted to offer care that was empathetic and personal – something difficult to do as a cog in the giant hospital system machinery. So, they decided to start the Primary Care Center of Clear Lake on this founding vision.

The practice seeks to build a relationship with patients and their families that spans decades and generations as a trusted partner in leading a healthy and long life.

We don’t just treat the disease – we focus on the whole person!

Every patient is unique, and so is their context. We take that into account when we treat patients – that is part of our personalized care approach.

What does a typical day look like for your staff—or is every day an adventure?

Every day is indeed an adventure! But the thread that is common every day: we look forward to serving our patients with compassion and expertise!

Almost all our patients are long-term patients for the practice – they have stayed with us for multiple years!

What do you consider Primary Care of Clear Lake’s biggest success or proudest moment?

Patients getting back to health is our biggest success, and their appreciation for our partnership is our proudest moment. Our practice has grown from the patients referring us to other patients; their trust is our greatest asset.

Compassion makes our patients comfortable, and expertise builds trust!

Have you or someone close to you experienced the condition or challenge you specialize in, and how has that personal journey shaped the way you care for your patients today?

Taking care of aging parents with chronic conditions is something we have personally experienced. That has motivated us to focus on working with older patients and helping them thrive in old age!

Can you share a memorable experience from your involvement in local community events or volunteer work?

We have been involved in patient education at the community level. Given talks regarding healthy living at our local community events. Sponsored local youth and cultural events. Our participation has allowed us to be immersed in the community we serve and given us a deeper understanding of the community’s healthcare needs. As an example, we became certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine because we saw the need to treat obesity medically in our communities!

What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine, and what continues to motivate you every day?

It was the motivation to help patients recover from sickness and stay healthy that got us into medicine, and this motivation has stayed as fresh today as it was when we started in medicine.

We have grown as a practice from one provider to eight providers over the last few years, driven entirely by patients referring other patients. Their trust in us is our most notable achievement!

Just as every patient has a unique story, every provider has their own source of inspiration and motivation to help improve the lives of patients. And that motivation is what we all bring to the clinic every day!
